On Monday, November 10, Leslie Uggams presents a special concert as the centerpiece of the Professional Children’s School’s Centennial Gala. A proud alum of PCS, Leslie returns to her childhood alma mater to celebrate 100 years of excellence in education and to honor the school’s head, Dr. James Dawson, for 20 years of dedicated service.
PCS provides a challenging academic education for young people working in or studying for careers in the performing and visual arts, competitive sports and other endeavors. The school strives to teach young people to balance the demands of their professional, personal and academic lives.
Leslie attended PCS while juggling her early television and recording careers. The late Marvin Hamlisch was a beloved classmate. Other notable PCS alumni include dancers Savion Glover, Gelsey Kirkland and Tiler Peck; musicians Yo-Yo-Ma and Buddy Rich and vocalist Beverly Sills; and a veritable who’s who of stage, television and film legends including Milton Berle, Carrie Fisher, Scarlett Johansson, Lorna Luft, Rita Moreno, Sarah Jessica Parker, Christopher Walken and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
The Centennial Gala includes a pre-show reception at 6:30 p.m., the concert at 7:15 p.m., and a post-show buffet dinner at 8:00 p.m. The event will be held at the JW Marriott Essex House, 160 Central Park South, New York City.
General admission tickets are $250 per person. For more information, please visit the Professional Children’s School website.
